The Mill X SCAD: Week 6 Review
SCAD X THE MILL
10/20/20232 min read
Personal Priority List for this week:
Having the lightning travel starting with a source
The lightning coming out of a common source instead of randomized; could be coming out of a plug
A strike of lightning coming down first to show general source from above, explanation for lightning.
Travel and spread of the lightning
The goal is to make it look like the lightning is climbing up on the car instead of it just coming out of no where and randomized with no direction
The Pyrospread was not working so this week I wanted to find an alternative that would give the results that is needed.
Cleanup of the noise and duration
As of now, the strikes are too slow and continuous. It needs to have more power and ZIP/ZAP to it. It is more instantaneous.
Spread

Method 1:
Problem: The pyro spread was not giving me as much control over the speed and direction as I needed for this project. The transition and crawl over the car was not as clean.
Using a color attribute transfer with a sphere to create a clean transition and it is easier to control the speed. The con of this method is that it may look too "clean" and may look unrealistic.
Color Attribute Transfer with Curves:
Color Attribute Transfer
Source (Plug)
Problem: It was difficult finding a clear source of the lightning that drives the direction of the lightning. It will make the context of the lightning more clear and easier to read.
I was trying to pull some information from this video of creating sources and having the curves extend from random points (However, the example it is pulled by data points) and then extending those curves based on the normals of the object.

Method 1:

I took the logic of the video, and created an attribute wrangle that will create primitives from a source point to the other random points.
